About us
Northland Chiller Rentals was was established in 2018 by Jacob and Courtney Chubb. There was a gap in the market in Northland for quality chiller trailer and freezer rentals and after discussing the idea for several years, Jacob and Courtney took the plunge and the business was born.
Starting with 2 home built chillers on custom made braked trailer bases the business started off slowly but steadily, initially operating out of an old hangar at Whangarei Airport. Initial feedback on the chillers was good and the business was welcomed to the local market.
A move to a more suitable location in Kamo was made and bookings continued to grow.
In the second year of business COVID-19 hit the events and catering industries hard. All bookings were cancelled and things were looking tough. A few essential bookings from produce growers carried the business through through the time of restrictions of social gatherings.
At the end of 2020 the local market changed with the largest party hire company in Northland closing down and there suddenly becoming a major shortage in refrigerated rentals in the region. A surge in bookings required quickly adding a 3rd home built chiller to the fleet to get through the summer, while other units were sourced. Outside help was sourced from Nelson Portable Coolrooms and the 4th, 5th and 6th chillers were added to the fleet in time for the summer of 2021/22.
Another move was required into a larger 200m2 building in Kamo as more space was required.
A further 2 chillers were added in 2022 and 2023 in a new "medium" size to help bridge the gap between the two sizes.
With a fleet of 8 the business has grown quickly in its first few years, with further chillers to be added in the future.
